Andrew Dewar
Andrew is a University of Minnesota student, studies ethnomusicology, plays wind instruments, and composes. Andrew is involved with a project in Sumatra, Indonesia that he will continue after graduation this summer.

Dawn Doering
Dawn is a Liberal Studies Masters student at the University of Minnesota. She is looking at the relation of bird song to human music as a perspective on environmental ethics. She currently studies classical Arabic music and Arabic flute. She lives on a five acre farm outside the Twin Cities with her cat, three-legged dog, and eight chickens. She is waiting on miniature donkeys.

Monika Gries
Monika, who is pursuing an individually designed BA degree at the University of Minnesota, studies Musicology, Communications, and Queer and Gender Studies. Monika works at the University's Epidemiology department. She is a pianist, singer, and queer activist. Monika lives in Northeast Minneapolis with her partner, Tyler, their menagerie of two cats (Morticia and Bear), and Val the sweet Rottweiler.

Ursula A. Kallio
Ursula, a native Minnesotan, writes software manuals for a supercomputer company.
She volunteered her website skills for this project.

Reid Krueger
Reid came to the Twin Cities in May of 1999. Reid studies music and cultural studies and records classical and jazz music around the Twin Cities. You can find him on weekends walking the streets capturing ambiental/environmental sounds.

Sean McPherson
Sean, an undergraduate student in music and cultural studies at the University of Minnesota, is from Massachusetts. He has lived in the Twin Cities for the last five years and is the bassist and leader of a Twin Cities live hip-hop band named Heiruspecs (http://www.interlock.cc/).

Shirley Mier
Shirley, originally from Florida, moved to the Twin Cities in 1988 for its thriving theatre community. She has been involved in numerous productions as music director, pianist, and composer. She is completing her Masters in Music Composition and lives in Minneapolis with her husband Minrod and daughter Miranda.

Kurt Miyashiro
Kurt, a graduate student in Music Composition at the University of Minnesota, is originally from California. He is glad to be in Minnesota because of the fishing. His family includes his wife Beth and daughter Tori.

Sean Roderick
Sean is a College of Liberal Arts undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota and a jazz piano player. Sean holds a subtle passion for Northeast Minneapolis and a not so subtle one for his daughter named Skylar.

Shelley Springob
Shelley is a senior majoring in Performance, Social Change, and Spanish. She is an avid salsa dancer and is looking forward to spending her summer in Cuba studying gender identity in Cuban nightclubs. Shelley is engaged to be married in Cuba this summer.

Allison Thielen
Allison is working on a Master's degree in musicology at the University of Minnesota. She is interested in ethnomusicology and American music and plays the violin, piano, percussion and steel drums. She is also teaching soccer at Whittier Community School.

Tracy Zank
Tracy, a well traveled and reluctant Minnesota native, is a PHD student in Anthropology. Her thesis is on Iranians in the Twin Cities.

John Zimmerman
John, a Ph.D. candidate in Music at the University of Minnesota, is the director of instrumental music at Apple Valley High School. John is an active freelancer who plays saxophone and performs with local and visiting celebrities.

Tyler J van Vierzen
Tyler is a web applications developer with Capella University who volunteered his ASP and website skills for this project.

Research Team #2

Kim Bahmer
Kim is junior at the University of Minnesota pursuing a degree in music education while participating as a diver on the University Swimming and Diving team. She sings in the University Concert Choir and is the leader of a Sacred Harp singing group on campus. Her other interests include ethnomusicology and songwriting.

Emily Bierden
Emily is originally from Eden Prairie, MN and is a second year Master's student in flute performance. She is also pursuing a Master's degree in Elementary Education which will be completed in 2003.

Yi-Chun Annie Chiang
Annie is a native of Taiwan and a graduate student in vocal performance at the University of Minnesota. As an international student, Annie is interested in music of Asian immigrants in America. She is conducting the Formosa Choir in the Twin Cities.

Ping-Yu Chuang
Ping-Yu is getting her MA degree in violin performance at the University of Minnesota. She is originally from Taiwan where she completed her bachelor degree.

Brad Draper
Brad is Master's student earning his degree in percussion performance. He is originally from Denver, Colorado, but currently lives and performs in the Twin Cities area.

Kristen K. Hanich
Kristen is a saxophonist studying for a master's degree in music performance at the University of Minnesota. She was born and raised in Nebraska, the Cornhusker State, but currently lives and plays in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Kristin Irving
Kristin is a sophmore pursuing an individualized degree in ethnomusicology while continuing flute performance studies. She hopes to continue work on projects started this semester and eventually study ethnomusicology in grad school, as well as learn to play the jouhikko and xun.

Jane Ramseyer Miller
Jane is pursing a Masters in Choral Conducting and is on-leave this year as Artistic Director for One Voice Mixed Chorus. She has also directed choral music in a variety of congregations as well as for Calliope WomenÍs Chorus from 1997 - 2000. She also served as Music Director for Voices for Peace, a multi-cultural youth choir located in the West Side neighborhood of St. Paul where Jane has lived for almost thirteen years.

Erica Neidlinger
Erica moved to the Twin Cities in 2000 to pursue a PhD in music education with an emphasis in wind conducting. She is currently conducting the Calhoun-Isles Community Band. Erica is a native of St. Louis and now resides in New Hope with her two cats.

Brian Ohnsorg
Brian is a Masters student at the University pursuing his degree in vocal performance. He holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Gustavus Adolphus College and is active as a singer and educator. Currently, Brian is a member of the Plymouth Music Series--Ensemble Singers, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus and the Opera program at the U of M. Prior to beginning his graduate studies, Brian was director of vocal music at ROCORI High School in Cold Spring, MN. In addition to his studies and performing, Brian teaches private voice lessons at an area high school.

Katie Peddell
Katie is working on a PhD in Music Education at the University of Minnesota. She and her husband Lewes moved from Australia to the Twin Cities in the Fall of 1999 and are enjoying the many opportunities this vibrant area provides.

Michael Sedki
Michael is a first year doctoral student studying multiple woodwinds. He received his masters degree from Michigan State University and his bachelor degrees from Truman State University.

Sarah Shilling
Sarah is currently a sophomore at the University of Minnesota and is pursuing a degree through the University's Individualized Studies Program. Her major is created and compiled from three different departmental areas focussed around sound production. She has been interested in music all her life and has found that studying the technical realm is her passion.

Patsy Leepeng Tan
Patsy is originally from Singapore and currently a Ph.D student in music therapy at the University of Minnesota. Her undergradute degree is in music theory and composition (Ohio University) and her first MA degree is in music theory from the University of Illinois. Patsy moved to Minnesota in 1994 for her second MA degree in music therapy. She worked as a music therapist for four years both in the United States and Taiwan before moving back to the Twin Cities in 2000 to start her doctoral program.

Jennifer Blair
Jennifer is originally from Vancouver, Canada, and currently a graduate student pursuing an interdisciplinary Masters of Liberal Studies degree. Since the end of Prof. Lausevic's 2001 MUS 5950 class, Jennifer has been having a lot of fun being the main researcher/writer for the World in Two Cities musical map.
